Cary has been playing guitar and bass since he was 12 and piano for about 5 years. He grew up learning songs by Metallica, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and other thrash rock bands. Currently he is inspired to play by many classic and modern pop and rock groups, Cary has been producing and recording music since he was 19 and has loved using music technology as a way to create and play with sound. Cary sees music as a form of communication with oneself as well as others and wants to help others find and recognize the place in them that lights up when they hear something that enlivens them. If it feels good and sounds good, it is good! He enjoy helping students learn to express themselves and hopefully find a voice they love to hear when they play their instrument. Cary's viewpoint on teaching is that the only lesson that's going to stick is the one the student truly wants to learn. To him this manifests in making sure to follow the students' own curiosities and interests. He provides a structured yet playful environment that will guide the student gently towards their goals in a way that is fun and enjoyable in the moment. After all, music should not be experienced as a dour task but a joyful way to spend our precious time.
