Israel Y

Israel holds a Bachelor of Music Performance with an Emphasis in Jazz Studies from Texas State University (2018-2022). He began playing drums at the age of five, guided by his father, a music minister, and his mother, a singer in their childhood church. With their support, he became adept in various musical genres, including hymns, gospel songs, and contemporary Christian music.

After years of self-study, Israel pursued formal music education in secondary school, where he discovered jazz. He achieved significant recognition during this time, earning first chair in the All-Region Jazz Band for three years and participating in the All-State Jazz Ensemble for two years. Continuing his studies at Texas State University, he honed his drum skills under renowned instructors Butch Miles of the Count Basie Orchestra and later Auther Latin, who played with Harry Connick Jr. At Texas State, Israel served as the drummer for the prestigious Texas State Jazz Ensemble, performing alongside esteemed jazz artists like Brian Bromberg, Conrad Herwig, and Nate Kimble.

As a professional musician, Israel has performed at notable festivals such as the Midwest Clinic and Convention and SA JazzAlive. He has collaborated with jazz artists Terell Stafford, Dayna Stephens, Bob Mintzer, and Chad LB, and traveled with world-class blues artist Ally Venable.

Today, Israel is dedicated to mentoring students and helping them reach their full musical potential. He emphasizes building a strong musical foundation to prepare students for diverse musical situations. Equally important, he values students' individual goals and interests, fostering an open environment where curiosity is always encouraged.
